Him & Her & Our Time
Government Shutdown Week #4
And no end in sight. Our government officials should not be getting paid if our military isn't getting paid. They all need to be fired and we need to elect all new house and senate. Term limits need to be a thing!

That's him.
SPEAKER_01:And that's her.
SPEAKER_00:And this is our time.
SPEAKER_01:Join us with a cup of coffee, maybe a bloody Mary, or even a glass of wine. As we chat about the adventures, the encounters, and all-around chaos of our life. Well, hello, everybody.
SPEAKER_00:Sorry we missed you last week. I was sicker than a dog.
SPEAKER_01:Yep. That you were.
SPEAKER_00:This weather changing is just Yeah, your allergies.
SPEAKER_01:That's what kicked in.
SPEAKER_00:I know when they say hay fever. It's a fever.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. Yeah. And I mean and then it went to sinus, didn't it? And then into congestion. And I mean, yeah, you you got knocked down for the punch.
SPEAKER_00:I know it w people were like 101.9 or something. Yes. And then like all week last week, it was at least like 99 and a half.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, you never could you never could break it. But you were getting good night's sleep. So What are you saying? No, I'm just saying that you were getting good night's sleep.
SPEAKER_00:So thinking NyQuil.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. Well, I mean, whatever you gotta take.
SPEAKER_00:I will take it every day of the week and twice on Sunday. But let me just tell you, people, PSA. Do not get the honey flavored Nyquil. I think it's new. And somebody thought it would be good to, well, let's get something different. Let's don't get the cherry flavored NyQuil. Let's get the honey flavored NyQuil and DayQuil for you. Thanks, babe. I appreciate it. It's disgusting. It is disgusting. I have to hold my nose while I take it, but then I can't swallow it with my whole nose held because then my ears start popping. So I have to unplug my nose because it was just nasty. It's not good at all.
SPEAKER_01:So it's well, that's good, then at least I know it's not addictive. No.
SPEAKER_00:And yesterday was the first day that I did not have to take Dayquil and sleep with Nyquil, so Yeah, that was finally.
SPEAKER_01:That was yeah. Finally relief.
SPEAKER_00:Mm-hmm. Exactly. Relief. And we're going into the this starts the fourth week of our government shutdown. No end in sight.
SPEAKER_01:No.
SPEAKER_00:That is ridiculous.
SPEAKER_01:Very much so.
SPEAKER_00:The lawmakers should not be getting paid.
SPEAKER_01:Right.
SPEAKER_00:Which I know some of them I've gotten, you know, I've gotten an email from our lawmaker saying that, you know, he has sent a letter to someone saying withhold pay until this is over. And I think they should all do that.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, they should. They should all. Everybody.
SPEAKER_00:I mean, because they're government workers.
SPEAKER_01:Right.
unknown:Right.
SPEAKER_00:So they should not be getting paid.
SPEAKER_01:And our taxpayer money is what is funded it.
SPEAKER_00:Right. And they're expected to show up to work and not get paid just like TSA and air traffic controllers and military. I mean, that's just ridiculous. And there's no end in sight.
unknown:I know.
SPEAKER_00:Meet and sit in a room and get it speculated.
SPEAKER_01:What was the last one? Wasn't there one that was like 45 days or something?
SPEAKER_00:35 or 45.
SPEAKER_01:45 days.
SPEAKER_00:Mm-hmm. And this one's ridiculous. I know, I know. I'm just I'm thankful that I don't work for the government.
SPEAKER_01:Right. But it's still it's affecting everywhere.
SPEAKER_00:I mean, my brother-in-law works for the government.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_00:You know, he's not getting paid and and what and what I don't understand is it just because the accountant people aren't there and that's why they're not getting paid? Because when the when the deal is over and the government opens up back opens back up again, they get their back pay.
SPEAKER_01:Right.
SPEAKER_00:So it's not like the you know the government ran out of money so it shut down, so they're not getting paid, and then they don't get paid for this four weeks that they've been out of work.
SPEAKER_01:Right, no, they get paid.
SPEAKER_00:So what what's the point? What is I don't know?
SPEAKER_01:I don't understand it all either. I really don't.
SPEAKER_00:And if the government's running out of money, you know what? Let's don't pay our uh presidents for the rest of their life. Let's don't pay our congresspeople for the rest of their life.
SPEAKER_01:True.
SPEAKER_00:When they're out of office. True. And give them all these benefits for the rest of their life, even when they're out of office. No, they get social security just like the rest of us.
SPEAKER_01:I agree.
SPEAKER_00:They need to contribute to a 401k just like the rest of us.
SPEAKER_01:I agree.
SPEAKER_00:Sorry, I'm on a soapbox.
SPEAKER_01:They go hey, ride that box. I just whatever you whatever you feel needs to get off your chest, you get it off your chest.
SPEAKER_00:I need to get it off my chest so I can breathe. But seriously. And supposedly the thing that's hell holding them up is that the Democrats are insisting that um health care be included in this spending thing that needs to be signed for they want to extend Obamacare, and I guess that covers illegal aliens. Which reminds me, I have to sign up for insurance this week. This is the last week of open enrollment for our insurance. But because because they're saying health care is so expensive. Well, you know what? If we're providing health care for illegal aliens, it's even more expensive. I'm not I don't want to pay.
SPEAKER_01:Right, no, I agree. I mean, we have our own to pay.
SPEAKER_00:Exactly.
SPEAKER_01:Why are we paying for others?
SPEAKER_00:Right. For sure.
SPEAKER_01:I completely and totally agree.
SPEAKER_00:So anyways. That's enough of that.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Or is it?
SPEAKER_01:How about them Aggies?
SPEAKER_00:7 and 0. Are you kidding me? 7 and 0 for the first time since like 1900.
SPEAKER_01:And it hasn't looked pretty. Hey, W's a W. Exactly. A W is a W.
SPEAKER_00:Well, and like I said yesterday, in in Pro Ball, a W's a W, it doesn't matter, but in college ball, it it does depend on the stuff. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_01:A W is a W that r does rankings, get you more publicity.
SPEAKER_00:But how pretty is the W also affects your ranking. You know, if you if you if you barely win, you might go down.
SPEAKER_01:Well, it depends. If you if you barely win against a conference player or another number ranked team, then you do you go up.
SPEAKER_00:Right, but if you barely win against a non-ranked team, you're gonna go down.
SPEAKER_01:It well, it just depends on how everybody else does around you.
SPEAKER_00:Right. But big story from the weekend.
SPEAKER_01:Yes.
SPEAKER_00:You're Broncos, baby.
SPEAKER_01:Oh my gosh, I know.
SPEAKER_00:33 points in the fourth quarter.
SPEAKER_01:Why are we waiting until the fourth quarter? I mean, it's just a lot of people.
SPEAKER_00:How many mini heart attacks did you have?
SPEAKER_01:I you know, uh Bo reminds me of John Elway a lot. And I had heartache with John Elway quite a few times. So I'm just enjoying watching that at least I have a quarterback that that's gonna be there for a while. And he's got some targets, which is fantastic. You know, and we got a decent kicker that can handle pressure, which is nice as well. So I just wish that it wasn't, you know, the last quarter that we start kicking in. We got a lot of things that we gotta just work on. We gotta we gotta cut out the fouls, we gotta cut out the penalties, and you know and just to see the look on those giants' faces, they were like, what just happened? I don't know.
SPEAKER_00:I know how did we lose this game?
SPEAKER_01:And that was I mean, and there's I mean, it was all within seconds, and it was the whole team's effort, the whole offensive line, and everybody having to hustle and get there and get up and and get it spiked so that we can get the kick, and then and then him getting this kick and you know, because he missed one earlier.
SPEAKER_00:So wasn't it 40-something yards? So it wasn't a gimme.
SPEAKER_01:No, it wasn't a gimme. It wasn't a gimme, but you know, yeah, so I'm happy about them Broncos. Bronco Nation. Yeah, that's uh that's good times. And then we had on Saturday, we had a wonderful uh what would you call it? Uh it was it a bazaar or was it like it was a country music festival. Okay.
SPEAKER_00:It was a country music festival that had arts that had vendors.
SPEAKER_01:Vendors for crafts and food and things like that, yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Right. Which when I signed up for it, they were like, you know, we were expecting 12,000 people. So it cost a pretty penny to get into it. A lot more than the farmers market is that I've been going to. But um, but I was like, but for 12,000 people, that's great. Well, the weather did not cooperate. It was so freaking hot. For the middle of October, it was so hot, and so that kept a lot of people home. Because it was a free, it was a free country music venue uh festival to go to.
SPEAKER_01:So I'm sure if people And we weren't necessarily put we I mean it was already I didn't even look back there. I wish I would have looked more uh of where we could have set up because if we would have been back by the craft stuff, I think we would have gotten a lot more business.
SPEAKER_00:We do we did great. Made our money, made a profit, um, but it was so not organized. I showed up, um, they they didn't have it was not assigned booths, it was first come, first serve, so you could be by your friends if you wanted to. They didn't have the booth spaces marked out so you knew where your 10 by 10 booth was. Right. Um, I showed up and I went, you know, finally found someone. They're like, oh, we'll all be in Bass Pro Shop hats. So I'm like looking around for someone with a Bass Pro Shop hat.
SPEAKER_01:I didn't see anybody in Bass Pro Shop hats.
SPEAKER_00:So I found someone. I was like, yeah, hi, I'm here to set up for the booth. He's like, okay, um, why don't you just go over there? I didn't give him my name. I didn't give him the name of the my company. He didn't check me off on a list to make sure that I paid. Yeah, that's I was like, Are you kidding me?
SPEAKER_01:And then he was gonna st and then you were gonna be over like where the a food truck where the food trucks were, but also where people sat down to eat what they just bought from the food truck. And I'm like, no, no, no, no, no, no. We need to be out where we can move around where we can be seen. And then we had a good decent spot, but then the persons right around our corner hogged that whole uh walkway so you couldn't even people couldn't get past that walkway, and that took traffic down.
SPEAKER_00:Right.
SPEAKER_01:But you know, and then we were so close to the music that we got just overwhelmed by the sound of it.
SPEAKER_00:And and nobody wanted to do shopping while the acts were performing.
SPEAKER_01:Right. But they they were over they were were over where the craft booths were, you know, that little picketed fence area over there. They were there.
SPEAKER_00:So the acts would go for about an hour, hour and a half, and then there'd be like a half an hour intermission between while the other the next band was setting up, and so that's when the people were shopping. Right, right. But it started out so good. Like within the first 45 minutes, I sold two Quillows to one family, and I was like, yeah, this is a good sign of things to come. And then it just we were there till 7 30 at night, and it just it was a long day out in the sun.
SPEAKER_01:And it takes about an it takes about an hour and a half, an hour and a half to set up and an hour and a half to break down.
SPEAKER_00:Right. Because there's very little I can do because I get overheated so easily. And even by wearing that neck fan that you got me, and even inside the tent, you've got three fans going, which we've got we've got the setup. We have got the setup, and that's what people are walking by and like, come on in, feel some of the feel some of the cool air we got going on. Yeah, and they come in, they're like, oh my gosh, this is so nice. Um, but I still get I I get overheated trying to help set stuff up, so I have to be, you're like, just sit down and direct me. Okay. Yeah. Okay, I will.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:So um, and then breaking down, you know, the festival was still going on when we were able to break down, so I like had to stay there while you take one load out to the car because I didn't want to just leave our booth there.
SPEAKER_01:And all our stuff is it is truly a three tripper. Uh with our good dolly. I mean, uh, thank goodness we have that thing because that has helped get it into big industrial wagon. Wagon, yeah. The sides fold down and stuff like that. You have to deal with that aspect, but that's what the bungees are for. Right. But yeah, that I mean and then we had to park, the parking was horrific. So, I mean, just having to go the distance of d pulling that stuff, setting it up, then to doing it back and forth, and then tr and then trucking it after you've been, you know, setting it's just crazy.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, it was not organized. So I will not be doing that festival next year.
SPEAKER_01:No.
SPEAKER_00:Um, because of course after I signed up for it and paid, I saw that there was other festivals going on in town that were like specific artisan, you know, right arts and crafts.
SPEAKER_01:Exactly.
SPEAKER_00:I'll do that next year. But I do have some high school um craft fairs um coming up in November. So and I know we keep saying it, but I need to take pictures so I can put the stuff on Etsy. And I'm gonna do it. I promise. We got a great camera for it.
SPEAKER_01:Right, we do. And and now we have we have white poster boards, so I mean, and all we gotta do, and you and we have a platform that we can use to flatten and just set it on, and that way we can just and we got the lights and everything to just take some shots.
SPEAKER_00:There's an adorable girl that sells things kind of like I sell that I I found on Etsy and YouTube, and she just takes pictures out in the sunshine.
SPEAKER_01:Right.
SPEAKER_00:She just holds her bags up out in the sunshine.
SPEAKER_01:So well, you can do that too. I know, I think. I'm just saying that I mean you're talking about with a good camera, she's doing that with her little iPhone probably.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, I'm sure she's not.
SPEAKER_01:You never know.
SPEAKER_00:I don't never know. So I don't never know.
SPEAKER_01:You know, never know. I don't never know. Well, I think, yeah, we can start. We need you need to get stuff on your Etsy page. You need to get this stuff looking good and going from there.
SPEAKER_00:So and then eventually setting up my own website. So it's coming, people. It's coming. And you know what else is coming? Our YouTube channel.
SPEAKER_01:That it is.
SPEAKER_00:We've been talking about it for a year or so that we would break out into YouTube.
SPEAKER_01:YouTube universe, and and have you know we're our podcast on YouTube. So we don't know the podcast I don't know yet, but we're definitely having uh we're gonna have things on there. We're getting a little, what would you say, a little uh catalog lined up before we launch so that we're not having to go every single week. I can't do that. Exactly.
SPEAKER_00:Kind of kind of like we did when we when we set this up, we like launched three episodes of our podcast right off the top. And when we first started, we had like we were like two months in advance.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, we were.
SPEAKER_00:We were we had plenty of we we dropped three episodes at once, and then we had one a week for like three months. And then we took advantage of that and didn't record for a bit. And then every time we think that we're getting one episode ahead, we're like we're like, let's record just a a random episode that has nothing to do with anything that's current event, and then we'll just hold we'll just you know keep it in the pipeline in case something happens. Something always happens. Something always happens that next week, and we're like, let's play that one. Yeah, let's play that one.
SPEAKER_01:But now, but now the good thing is is I think that we can with our setup, I think we can work it to that we can do this on the move. And then that way we can you know broadcast from different areas. You know, who knows?
SPEAKER_00:Broadcast live from the Christmas fair.
SPEAKER_01:Could be.
SPEAKER_00:No, because I'm gonna be so busy, I'm not gonna be able to sit down.
SPEAKER_01:I know. I know going, going, going, going, going. We had your we had the booth set up really good.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, it was so cute. It was very cute. I will post a picture of that. I can post a picture of that on Instagram. And thank you to all of our new followers. We've got a lot of new followers on Instagram and on Facebook. So thank you. I need to get better at posting. So y'all are looking at something.
SPEAKER_01:It's all you, it's all you.
SPEAKER_00:I'm so good at social media when it comes to just looking at looking at it.
SPEAKER_01:Exactly. I I can look not putting up, not putting up content.
SPEAKER_00:I know it.
SPEAKER_01:You gotta get on that.
SPEAKER_00:I know, I need to get better, and I will because y'all have been doing what we've been asking, and y'all have been, you know, leaving us the feedback and you're following us and rate us. We appreciate it all. Yeah, so keep doing it. Thanks for caring. Exactly. Caring is sharing.
SPEAKER_01:Yes, it is.
SPEAKER_00:And I promise I will get better at it so you can leave amazing comments and recommend us to all your family and friends, because again, we're just a a podcast about nothing really, just husband and wife, empty nesters, just chatting it up, chatting up talking about talking about the weeks escapades. Exactly.
SPEAKER_01:You know, the craziness in our life, and it's a lot coming. There is a lot coming. There's a lot coming. Well, that was him, and that was her, and this was our time. Bye, babe. Bye, hun.
